Our Itinerary
Saturday, September 23 – Depart the USA on your overnight flight to Dublin.
Sunday, September 24 – After meeting our driver/guide, Corkman Lesley Daunt, we’ll head towards Kilkenny with a pause for tea/coffee and scones) We’ll stop at the Ireland’s National Stud, Ireland’s premier horse breeding center and horse museum and tour the near-by Japanese Gardens, considered to be the best example of a Japanese garden in Europe. Overnight: The River Court Hotel, Kilkenny (B, D) Monday, September 25 – After breakfast we’ll take a walking tour of the city. Our local guide will tell us of the city’s checkered past as we explore the lanes, streets, characters and stories of this remarkable place. Then to Smithwicks Brewery to learn about the brewing process, the history of this famous family and enjoy a sample of the amber ale. This evening, a little exploration or a quiet pint in one of Kilkenny’s many fine pubs before dinner in our hotel perhaps? Overnight: The River Court Hotel, Kilkenny (B, D) Tuesday, September 26 – Breakfast, and then we head south towards Co. Cork. We’ll stop at the legendary Rock of Cashel, dating from the 12th and 13th century, with its spectacular view of the surrounding country. (Great photo op!) Then we’re off to the charming seaside village of Kinsale in County Cork, known as the “foodie” capital of Ireland and highlighted by colorful buildings and an equally colorful history. Since Cork is called the “Rebel County”, perhaps a few rebel songs from Seamus & Tom at tonight’s session? Overnight: The Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B, D) Wednesday, September 27 – Breakfast anyone? Today we’ll take a stroll through the past, with a guided walking tour, we’ll learn about Kinsale and its place in Ireland’s history. The remainder of the day will be free to explore the town. Kinsale has no shortage of cafes, pubs and restaurants to suit every taste and budget, though Seamus recommends “Fishy, Fishy or Jim Edwards Pub & Restaurant. Overnight: The Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B) Thursday, September 28 – After our matinal repast we travel along the beautiful West Cork coastline to Mizen Head, the most southerly point in Ireland with its breathtaking cliffs. Mizen has attracted people through the millennia, evident in its fine archaeological discoveries. Then we drive to the beautiful Parknasilla Resort and Spa, home for the next three nights. Overnight: Parknasilla, Killarney (B, D) Friday September 29 – We enjoy a free day at Parknasilla Resort & Spa. Check their website to see what you might want to do today. Enjoy waking the estate, biking, kayaking, golfing or some relaxing time in their beautiful spa. www.parknasillaresort.com. Plan to book spa treatments in advance. Overnight: Parknasilla Resort & Spa, Co. Kerry (B) Saturday, September 30 – Today we will tour the famous Ring of Kerry with a stop at Moll’s Gap to view the three lakes with the mountains and town in the background. Great photo Op! A brief stop in Killarney for lunch before continuing our journey. This circular tour will reveal constantly changing vistas of mountains, open Atlantic Ocean, beaches and cliffs. Driving through the remote towns of Cahirciveen and Waterville we return to Parknasilla for dinner at our hotel. Who knows what musical interlude Mr. Kennedy & Mr. O’Carroll have planned for this evening? But it will be fun! Overnight: Parknasilla, Killarney (B, D) Sunday, October 1 – Following breakfast we head north towards the beautiful Burren, an area of limestone rock covering imposing majestic mountains, tranquil valleys, meandering streams and an extraordinary array of flora and wildlife. The Burren has delights for all the senses. Stop at the Cliffs of Moher and take in the stunning Clare coastline, then onward to Galway. Overnight: Park House Hotel, Galway (B, D) Monday, October 2 – Today we will visit Kylemore Abbey, one of the most photographed locations in Ireland. Built in 1867, the Abbey and the surrounding mountains and lakes are steeped in Irish lore. Next stop the Connemara History & Heritage Center. The Center offers an insight into the history and heritage of this beautiful part of the West of Ireland. See how turf (peat) is cut and sample a drop of ‘poitín’ moonshine for you Yanks! Overnight: Park House Hotel, Galway (B, D) Tuesday, October 3 – After breakfast, we say farewell to Ireland as we depart for Shannon Airport where you’ll clear US Customs, Border Protection (Passport) and TSA in time for a little last minute Duty-Free shopping. You’ll arrive back in the U.S. as a “domestic” passenger making it convenient to connect to an onward flight or to exit the airport with ease. Slán abhaile! – Safe home! And Go raibh maith agat!
