Wednesday, April 24 – Depart the USA on United Airlines from Newark, NJ at 7:20 pm. Get plenty of sleep. This is going to be a good one!
Thursday, April 25 – Arrive in Dublin Airport around 7:05 am We meet our driver/guide, Corman Lesley Daunt, board our luxury coach and head west to Galway City known as the ‘city of the tribes’. Stop for tea/coffee and scones along the way. Some time to relax after check-in before meeting your fellow travelers for dinner. Overnight: Park House Hotel, Friday, April 26 – This morning we visit the Connemara History & Heritage Center which offers a unique insight into the history and heritage of this beautiful part of the West of Ireland. See how turf (peat) is cut and sample a drop of ‘poitin’ (moonshine for you Yanks!). Enjoy some free time in Clifden for lunch or maybe a pint in a local pub. Stop in Connemara Marble on the way back to Galway City. Mr. Kennedy will regale you this evening with some songs from this lovely part of Ireland. Hills of Connemara and the Galway Shawl, perhaps? Saturday, April 27 – Today we are going south into other-worldly Burren, a veritable moonscape of glacial limestones with majestic mountains, gentle valleys and babbling brooks. It’s extraordinary array of flora and fauna make the Burren a tapestry of color with a deeply spiritual aura. Stop at the Cliffs of Moher and take in the stunning Clare coastline. Onward into the beautiful country of Kerry. After dinner, a few Kerry songs from himself. Sunday, April 28 – Another breakfast, and today we travel along the Dingle Peninsula to delight in the stunning views of the Slieve Mish Mountains, the shoreline of Dingle Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean. Near Slea Head, Ireland’s westernmost point, we will be able to see the Blasket Islands offshore, and possibly America. Visit the Blasket Center, a fascinating heritage and cultural museum, honoring the unique community who lived on the remote Blasket Islands until their evacuation in 1953. Return to Dingle and dinner will be at our hotel. Who knows what musical interlude Seamus has planned for this evening? But it will be fun! Monday, April 29 – This morning we visit the world famous Blarney Castle in Co. Cork. You may climb to the top and kiss the stone if you would like to receive the ‘gift of the gab’. Enjoy some time walking the grounds or in the shops. Next stop is the iconic Rock of Cashel, an opportunity here to take a photo before continuing our journey to the lovely city of Kilkenny. Some free time this afternoon to explore the city on foot or relax in your city center hostel overlooking the magnificent Kilkenny Castle. Tuesday, April 30 – Today we will visit Malzards Pub in the lovely village of Stoneyford to learn the ancient Irish sport of ‘hurling’, the fastest field game in the world.
